Community Indicators for Your Community

Real, lasting community change is built around knowing where you are, where you want to be, and whether your efforts are making a difference. Indicators are a necessary ingredient for sustainable change. And the process of selecting community indicators -- who chooses, how they choose, what they choose -- is as important as the data you select.

This is an archive of thoughts I had about indicators and the community indicators movement. Some of the thinking is outdated, and many of the links may have broken over time.

CIC Appoints New Executive

Here's an update from the Community Indicators Consortium:

Dear CIC Members and Associates:

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Maureen Hart as Acting Executive Director of the Community Indicators Consortium, effective October 6, 2008.

Maureen comes to the position with 15 years experience working on indicator projects at a variety of scales from organization and local communities to regional, national, and international. Many of you may already be familiar with her work on sustainability indicators and her Guide to Sustainable Community Indicators, which is used world-wide by organizations and communities working to enhance long-term economic, social, and environmental quality of life.

The CIC Board and I think that Maureen is a natural choice to lead the Consortium. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with indicator projects to the position, but more importantly, she has a natural ability to bring together the wide variety of groups and organizations that are needed to successfully integrate community indicators into sound community management practices. Her experience in establishing and running the International Sustainability Indicators Network is invaluable as we continue our efforts to strengthen the CIC network and community of practice.

Please join the CIC Board in welcoming Maureen. She can be reached at 860.808.7487 or ED@communityindicators.net.

The new mailing address for CIC is
PO Box 502,
West Hartford, CT 06137-0502

Sincerely yours,
Anindita Mitra
CIC President
